These are scans of a male River Jewelwing captured on Memorial Day along the Shasta River, 7 miles north of Yreka. It was one of many there. There seemed to be a male about every 6 feet along the shore and all of them were busy doing their beautiful courtship dance low over the water while the females clustered together off to the side in the blackberry brambles.

species has over the water during its courtship dance when its wings appear to
